BIOGRAPHY
Born on May 18, 1954 and named Toni Anita Gray, this Artist, Writer, Soap Designer, Producer, and Evangelist has many talents. Working in the corporate world as an Administrative Assistant, Gray learned many things under previous Chairman, Presidents, and Directors about business in general. Nevertheless, she never left nor lost her love for painting. Her word was displayed in an exhibiting at DuSable Museum in 1995 and 2004 in Hyde Park her place of residence fro age eighteen. She had a small exhibition at her College, DePaul University with other classmates in 2—5.Born in Chicago, Illinois at Billings Hospital Gray is a city girl who loves the lakefront, birds, cats, but her favorite things are hummingbirds and butterflies. She began her art career without instructions with paint by number sets given to her by her Grandmother, Rosie Lee Hardy-Paige of Mississippi, three times a week when she arrived home from a 13 hours day of work.
Anita started taking photos via a class at DePaul University also although she always took the family photos with a Polaroid instamatic camera many years ago given to her by her Grandfather, Chester Boyd Hardy for her birthday around 1965 as a schoolgirl. Anita then embarked on her journey and life in 1975 during academic adventures at Columbia College in Chicago. There she studied Television and TV Production, Acting, Art and Radio Announcing and writing poetry.
Toni’s love for art and her God-given eye ran to the genre of abstract art with very vivid hues in her mind. Under the direction of, at that time, Chairman, William conger and Assistant Chairman, Robert Donnelley both well accolades artist in the art world for decades, she found her nitch. She later studied under professors Brian Sikes, Bibianna Suarez, his wife, drawing with Matthew Grison, Print Making with Mark Zlotkowski, Art History with Catherine Zurybida, Creating Murals with Elder Mark Edwards, acting wit Joseph Gustaferro and Peter Michka, and Photography and three dimensional design, dance Stella and theatrical movement with Carol Delk and the techniques of clowning with Steve Smith Toni’s section of a classroom mural is displayed on the walls of Argyle and Winthrop at the Wilson el stop which depicts the community and the many cultures it houses.
Anita’s contribution to this DePaul class assignment was to do characteristics of Miles Davis and women of Chinese descent depicting the cultures of that community. Her commitment to art and photography and evangelism, keeps her life missions alive. Most have one live mission but Gray’s plate is always overflowing with responsibility. Her dedication ad outstand contribution to theology as an evangelist spreading the Gospel of Christ while teaching an preaching the Word of God through scriptures via facebook, twitter, and youtube are all over the internet where her name is goggled. Fro Toni this section of her life is her most precious assignment, one she loves and is dearest to her heart, which is the people of God. In her photography her focus is oft-times, city architecture, the people that dwell I the city and the activities of the city including the animals, insects and earths natural objects like the sea and the flowers. Working to complete her first poetry book, Lyrical Discernment a collection of her poems over her lifetime, Gray hopes to renew interest in the writing and reading of poetry by all people, American women in general. This is her personal contribution in hopes to never evade the opportunity of being a living part of the arts a genre with fewer and fewer public and private contributions. Gray worries abut the vanishing of a loved tradition among her people. Toni enjoys social networking opportunities and is continually developing her career which she says in her opinion is so much fun she hope it never ends.
